The 26th episode of the Literary Lens programme, conducted by the Literary Club of MI Training College, Ponnani, was held on 8th November 2024 at 7:30 PM via Google Meet. The session featured Navya C, a B.Ed. student from the 2024-2026 batch, who presented a review of the celebrated work “Charulatha” by Rabindranath Tagore.

Navya began her review by providing an overview of Rabindranath Tagore’s literary legacy, focusing on his unique ability to weave complex human emotions into his narratives. She introduced Charulatha as a story that explores themes of love, companionship, and emotional conflicts within a marital relationship.

Through her detailed analysis, Navya shed light on the character of Charulatha, a woman who finds herself in a web of loneliness and unfulfilled desires despite being in a marriage. She also discussed the role of Amal, a younger relative whose bond with Charulatha becomes the emotional core of the story, illustrating the depth and intricacy of human relationships.

Navya effectively highlighted the cultural and societal backdrop of the story, emphasizing how Tagore skillfully portrays the internal struggles of individuals within a traditional Indian setting. Her analysis of the narrative style, use of symbolism, and the emotional depth of the characters enriched the session and provided the audience with a profound understanding of the work.

The review concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants shared their interpretations of the story and reflected on its timeless relevance. The session was praised for its engaging content and Navya’s eloquent presentation.

The Literary Club extended its appreciation to Navya for her thoughtful review, marking another successful episode of the Literary Lens series in its mission to foster literary appreciation and critical analysis.
