On 29 May 2024, the Eco & Energy Club of MI Training College, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Edappal, organized a significant event focusing on the recycling and reuse of e-waste. The initiative, named TRASH, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of proper e-waste management among students and the community.
Inauguration and Addresses
The event commenced with a prayer led by students, followed by a welcome speech from Ms. Neethu T.M., the Eco & Energy Club convener. Principal Dr. Naseerali Mk delivered the presidential address, highlighting the college’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices and educating students on environmental issues. The Eco & Energy Club was officially inaugurated by Lt. Dr. Thoufeeq Rahman, a faculty member from the Department of Arabic at MES Ponnani and a known social worker. He emphasized the critical role of environmental sustainability in today’s world and shared inspiring examples of successful environmental restoration efforts.
Awareness Program
Mr. Dileep Kumar, the President of the Rotary Club, JCI organizer, and international trainer, was the resource person for the awareness program. In his session, Mr. Kumar provided an in-depth explanation of the processes involved in the restructuring, reuse, and recycling of e-waste. He highlighted the environmental and health hazards posed by improper disposal of electronic waste and the benefits of recycling e-waste. His presentation underscored the pivotal role that teachers and students can play in driving social movements for responsible e-waste disposal.
E-Waste Collection Drive
Students of MI Training College actively participated in an e-waste collection drive, gathering various types of electronic waste from the college and the surrounding community. The collected e-waste was then handed over to E-Max Associates, a company specializing in e-waste management and recycling. This practical exercise not only contributed to the proper disposal of electronic waste but also served as a hands-on learning experience for the students.

The event successfully raised awareness about the importance of e-waste management and encouraged students to adopt sustainable practices. The collaboration between MI Training College and the Rotary Club of Edappal demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
