The 42nd episode of the Literary Lens, the weekly book review series organized by the Literary Club of MI Training College, was held on 28th March 2025. The session featured Anagha C.P, a B.Ed. student of the 2024–2026 batch, who delivered an engaging review of “Mucheettukalikkarante Makal”, a celebrated short story by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, fondly known as the Beypore Sultan.

Anagha delved into the unique charm of Basheer’s storytelling, highlighting the humorous tone, simple yet impactful language, and the subtle critique of social norms. She discussed the vivid characterization of the father—a card player—and his intelligent daughter, showcasing how Basheer skillfully presents themes of gender roles, freedom, and human relationships through a slice-of-life narrative.

The session was both insightful and light-hearted, evoking appreciation for Basheer’s literary brilliance. Participants actively engaged in the discussion that followed, sharing their interpretations and favorite lines from the story.
