The 43rd episode of the Literary Lens programme, organized by the Literary Club of MITC, was conducted on 4th April 2025 through Google Meet. The session featured Bhavna R. K, a B.Ed. student from the 2023–2025 batch, as the presenter.
Bhavna presented a detailed and thoughtful review of the Malayalam literary work Oru Theruvinte Katha, originally written by S. K. Pottekkatt. The novel, set against the backdrop of Kozhikode’s S.M. Street (Mittayi Theruvu), vividly captures the pulse of the street and the lives intertwined with it. Bhavna highlighted the socio-cultural vibrance of the characters and how the street becomes a microcosm of Kerala society during a changing era.
Her review effectively captured Pottekkatt’s narrative style, blending personal memories with fiction, and emphasized the nostalgic and reflective tone of the novel. She also explored themes such as human relationships, the passage of time, and the dynamic nature of urban spaces.
The presentation was followed by a lively discussion, where participants appreciated the historical and emotional depth of the book and Bhavna’s articulate delivery. The session successfully deepened the audience’s appreciation for regional literature and the storytelling prowess of S. K. Pottekkatt.
