Introduction
Iqra, the first word revealed to Prophet Muhammad in the Quran, means “Read” or “Recite.” The Surat Al-‘Alaq (The Clot), begins with “Iqra bismi rabbika allathee khalaq,” which translates to “Read in the name of your Lord who created.” This revelation emphasizes the importance of knowledge and learning.
MI Training College (MITC) is set to inaugurate the BEd Programme for the 2024-26 batch with an innovative initiative named IQRA. This program aims to instill a love for reading and literature among future educators by incorporating a unique book donation and sharing system.
Objective
The primary objective of IQRA is to foster a culture of reading and sharing knowledge among new BEd students, enhancing their literary acumen and encouraging a collaborative learning environment.
Initiative Details
Book Donation:
Each newly admitted student will bring a copy of their favorite literature book to donate to the college library.
The book donation marks the beginning of their educational journey at MITC.
Presentation and Reflection:
Upon donating the book, students will share a few of their favorite lines from the book.
This exercise aims to introduce students to each other’s literary tastes and spark discussions.
Literary Lens Programme:
Students will later give a detailed presentation on the content of the book they donated.
The presentations will be part of the “Literary Lens” programme, designed to deepen understanding and appreciation of diverse literary works.
Book Registration System:
To avoid duplication of donated books, students will initially register the title of their chosen book.
The registration system will display the titles on the college website, ensuring transparency and helping others to check for duplicates before purchasing their books.
Implementation
Pre-Admission Phase:
Students will receive guidelines about the IQRA initiative upon receiving their admission offer.
The college will provide a link to the book registration portal where students can register their book titles.
Admission Day:
Students will bring their registered books and present a few favorite lines during a welcome ceremony.
Books will be formally handed over to the college library.
Post-Admission Phase:
Students will prepare their presentations for the Literary Lens programme.
The schedule for the Literary Lens presentations will be shared, allowing students ample time to prepare.
Expected Outcomes
Enhanced Literary Skills:
Students will develop a deeper appreciation for literature and improve their critical reading and presentation skills.
Collaborative Learning:
By sharing and discussing various literary works, students will foster a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.
Enriched College Library:
The college library will be enriched with a diverse collection of literature, benefiting the entire student community.
Conclusion
The IQRA initiative by MI Training College is a thoughtful and innovative approach to starting the BEd Programme for the 2024-26 batch. By integrating book donations and literary discussions into the curriculum, MITC aims to cultivate a robust reading culture and prepare future educators who value knowledge and the sharing of ideas.💡
