The “Literary Lens” Literary Club conducted another engaging session on May 24, featuring a captivating review of the classic English novel “Ancient Promises” written by Jaishree Misra. The review was presented by Sruthi K an esteemed alumna of the college, via Google Meet at 7:30 PM. The session commenced promptly at 7:30 PM on the designated online platform, with members and literary enthusiasts eagerly joining to participate in the discussion on “Ancient Promises.” Sruthi K, a distinguished alumna, took the floor to share her insights into this iconic piece of English literature.

Sruthi K presented the review by providing a brief overview of “Ancient Promises,” setting the stage for an in-depth exploration of its themes, characters, and literary significance. As an alumna who is knowledgeable  in the cultural and literary heritage of the region, Sruthi K brought a unique perspective to the discussion. Sruthi K delved into the thematic underpinnings of “Ancient Promises,” unraveling its exploration of love, marriage and personal growth in the context of Indian society. Her analysis provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the novel’s allegorical elements and socio-cultural commentary. The resource person meticulously dissected the characters in “Ancient Promises,” highlighting their psychological complexities and symbolic representations. This analysis shed light on the profound impact of characters such as Janaki and the Ancient Promises on the narrative. The story, set against the backdrop of Kerala and London, spans over several years, providing a poignant exploration of cultural expectations, family obligations, and the quest for self-identity.
