The 45th episode of the Literary Lens review programme, organized by the Literary Club of MI Training College, was held on 18th April 2025 through Google Meet. The session featured a review by Shadiya Mariyam, a B.Ed. student from the 2023–2025 batch.

Shadiya presented a captivating review of the Malayalam classic Ntuppuppakkoranendarnnu written by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, a master storyteller and one of the most celebrated figures in Malayalam literature. She explored the themes of cultural transformation, superstition versus rationality, and the subtle resistance to societal norms through the eyes of the protagonist, Kunjupathumma.

The presentation highlighted Basheer’s unique narrative style, interwoven with humour, satire, and deep social commentary. Shadiya also discussed how the novel reflects the clash between tradition and modernity, especially in the context of rural Kerala’s changing landscape.

The session was engaging and provoked thoughtful discussions among the attendees, who appreciated the timeless relevance of the book and Basheer’s keen observations of human nature. The Literary Lens series continues to offer a platform for budding readers and critics to delve deeper into the world of literature, and Shadiya’s insightful review added immense value to the initiative.

The session concluded with feedback and appreciation from the faculty and peers, making Episode 45 another memorable chapter in the Literary Club’s ongoing journey of literary exploration.
