Introduction: MI Training College celebrated the national and culturally rich festival of Onam with great enthusiasm on september1, 2022. The occasion brought together students, faculty, and staff, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity. The college principal Mrs Ajitha kumary mam gave a warm message to the students and staffs.
Objectives:
To celebrate the cultural heritage of Kerala through traditional Onam festivities.
To promote unity and camaraderie among students, faculty, and staff.
To provide a platform for showcasing talents and creativity.
Event Highlights:
Traditional Pookalam making: The festivities commenced with a Pookalam. It is an integral part of Onam celebrations in Kerala. College students often participate enthusiastically in creating beautiful Pookalams during this celebration. where students showcased their creativity by designing colorful floral arrangements. The intricate patterns and vibrant colors added a festive charm to the surroundings.
Cultural Performances: Students presented a variety of cultural programs including classical dance performances like mega thiruvathira, kaikottikali, and various traditional dances. The performances captivated the audience and showcased the rich heritage of Kerala.
Traditional dressing: Students and faculty adorned traditional Kerala attire such as kasavu sarees, mundu, and veshti, adding to the festive ambiance of the event. The vibrant colors and elegant designs showcased the beauty of Kerala’s cultural heritage.
Onam Sadhya. No Onam celebration is complete without a lavish feast, and College ensured that everyone indulged in the traditional Onam Sadhya. A delectable spread of authentic Kerala delicacies, served on banana leaves, delighted the taste buds of all attendees. From mouth-watering dishes like Avial, Thoran, and Sambhar, pappadam, Upperi, Kalan, pickle, pulingi to delectable desserts like Payasam, the feast captured the essence of Onam’s culinary delights.
Games and Activities: Various traditional games and activities were organized, including uriyadi (pot-breaking), and musical chair competitions, Sundari Ku Pottuthodal, lemon spoon etc. These activities brought participants together and added an element of fun and excitement to the celebration.
Conclusion: The Onam celebration at MI Training College was a resounding success, fostering a sense of unity, cultural pride, and camaraderie among the students, faculty, and staff.
