The Women Cell and National Service Scheme (NSS) units of MI Training College Ponnani jointly organized a comprehensive Cyber Safety Awareness Program on November 13, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. The primary objective of the program was to educate students and faculty on the growing threats in the digital landscape and equip them with practical strategies for ensuring personal and institutional cyber security. The initiative was particularly aimed at fostering a culture of responsible internet usage among young adults.

Inaugural Session

The program commenced with the formal inaugural session. Ms. Shahana Shirin P, Fine Arts Secretary, extended a warm and gracious welcome to the dignitaries, the resource person, and the assembled participants, emphasizing the crucial need for awareness in the present-day digital era.

The program was formally inaugurated by Dr. Noufal P, Principal of MI Training College. In his address, Dr. Noufal highlighted the dual nature of technology—as a powerful tool for learning and communication, and as a source of risk if not handled carefully. He underscored the college’s commitment to providing a safe and informed environment for all its members.

Technical Session by Resource Person

The core session was led by the distinguished resource person, Mr. Vishnu Sankar, Civil Police Officer, Cyber Police Station, Malappuram. Drawing upon his extensive experience in tackling cybercrime, Mr. Sankar delivered an insightful and highly engaging presentation.

Key topics covered during his session included:

  • Social Engineering: Detailed explanation of phishing, vishing, and spoofing attacks, and how malicious actors manipulate individuals to gain sensitive information.
  • Data Privacy: Best practices for securing personal data, setting strong passwords, and managing privacy settings across social media platforms.
  • Digital Footprint and Cyberbullying: The lasting impact of online actions and the legal consequences and support systems available for victims of cyberbullying and harassment.
  • Financial Fraud: Practical tips on avoiding online transactional fraud, safe use of UPI, and awareness regarding OTP sharing.

Mr. Sankar’s session was highly interactive, allowing participants to clarify doubts regarding incident reporting and legal procedures related to cyber offenses.

Conclusion of the Program

The highly successful program concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Henna Fathima, Chairperson. She expressed gratitude to Mr. Vishnu Sankar for dedicating his time and expertise, to the principal for his continuous support, to the NSS and Women Cell coordinators for their meticulous planning, and to all the participants for their enthusiastic attendance. The event concluded with the firm commitment to host more such awareness initiatives in the future.
