Ponnani, May 24, 2025:
The valedictory session of the Bridging Course—an outreach initiative jointly organized by the NSS Unit of MI Training College, Ponnani and the CSILL India Foundation—was held with great enthusiasm and participation. The project, conducted during the summer vacation, aimed to empower slow learners from nearby villages who face difficulties in basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

A total of 50 school-going students from Standard II to IX benefitted from the programme, attending regular remedial classes held at the college campus. The sessions were led by a committed team of NSS volunteers-cum-teacher trainees from MITC along with expert trainers from CSILL India Foundation.

The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Naseerali M.K., Principal of MI Training College, who emphasized that higher education institutions must remain active contributors to the society they are part of. “At MITC, we believe in extending our academic and human resources for the betterment of society through consistent and meaningful initiatives,” he remarked.

Sri. Rajesh Ooppala, Chairman of the Welfare Standing Committee, Ponnani Municipality, delivered the valedictory address. He underlined the importance of collective efforts in social development, stating, “Real progress can only be achieved when both the state and its citizens work together.”

The event was graced by Adv. Suresh, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, as the Chief Guest, who lauded the initiative for its focus on educational equity. Municipal Councillor Farhan Biyyam also addressed the gathering and highlighted the vital role educators play in shaping a progressive society.

Other notable speakers included P.T. Shihab, Director of CSILL India Foundation, Mr. Ameen Farook, NSS Programme Officer of MITC, Ms. Nandana M, NSS Student Coordinator, and CSILL resource persons Mr. Kabeer and Mr. Niyas, who shared their experiences and insights from the programme.

The extended academic support to the participating pupils will continue through the academic year, with planned interventions and follow-up activities to ensure sustained learning. Guardians and student stakeholders also shared their experiences, expressing gratitude and appreciation for the positive changes they observed in the students.

The programme concluded with vibrant arts performances by the participating students, showcasing their creativity, enthusiasm, and the confidence gained through the sessions. The event stood as a testament to the power of community-oriented education and the shared commitment of institutions, educators, and civil society to nurture every learner.
