The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MI Training College (MITC) in collaboration with the Ponnani Taluk Legal Service Committee organized a Legal Awareness Class on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The session aimed to educate students on both the positive aspects and potential misuse of the POCSO Act.

Dr. Naseerali M.K., Principal of MITC, extended a warm welcome to the gathering and highlighted the significance of legal awareness in educational institutions.

The session was led by Adv. Shafi K.P., a panel lawyer for the Ponnani Legal Service Committee and a practicing lawyer at the POCSO Court. Adv. Shafi provided an in-depth overview of the POCSO Act, emphasizing its critical role in ensuring justice for children who are victims of sexual offenses. He also discussed the importance of being aware of potential misuse of the Act, particularly in cases of false accusations or vindictive actions, which could occur in professional environments and even in student-teacher relationships. Adv. Shafi shared his practical experiences from the courtroom, which provided valuable insights into the workings of the law.

Following the lecture, students participated in an interactive session, raising questions and discussing the challenges related to the implementation of the Act. This open discussion allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of the legal framework and the importance of being vigilant in such matters.

Mr. Rabah Rakkeeb, Secretary of the Ponnani Taluk Legal Service Committee, felicitated the event, commending the initiative for fostering legal awareness among future educators.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Aswathy T.S., Chairperson of the Students’ Union, who expressed gratitude to all the speakers and participants for their active involvement in the session.

The event was well-received, and participants left with a clearer understanding of the POCSO Act and the responsibilities it entails.
